How to turn off Advantage+ enhancements in Meta Ads Manager

Every switch, where Meta put it, how to turn it off by hand, and why it will be on again tomorrow. Written from the September 2026 ad editor; Meta moves these around, so the section names below are the ones you will see today.

Updated 3 September 2026. About 6 minutes to read, about 2 minutes to do per ad.

What Advantage+ enhancements are

When you create or duplicate an ad in Meta Ads Manager, Meta attaches a set of automatic changes to it: it may crop or expand your image, adjust brightness, animate a still, overlay text or a product card, rewrite your headline, add music to a video, pull in comments, attach site links, add a shop destination, and more. Meta calls these Advantage+ creative enhancements, Standard enhancements, or simply "enhancements" depending on the card and the month. Most of them are switched on by default, and they are per ad, so what you turned off yesterday is on again on today's duplicate.

Advertisers turn them off for ordinary reasons: the creative was approved by a client as designed, an A/B test needs identical delivery, a product photo must not be re-cropped, a headline must not be rewritten. Meta's position is that enhancements can improve performance; whether they do for your account is something you can only learn by testing with them off.

Where the switches live

There is no single list. The switches are spread over five cards in the ad editor, and several of them open a sub-modal with their own tabs and their own Save button. This is the map:

The names above are Meta's, taken from the interface. The extension tracks 70 categories across these cards and shows any new toggle it meets so the list stays current.

Turn them off by hand, step by step

1. Start from the Duplicate dialog, if you are duplicating

Before you click Duplicate, uncheck Select all recommendations and the individual boxes under it. Each box re-applies a group of enhancements to the copy. Skipping this step is the most common reason people think their settings "did not save".

2. Open the ad and clean the Advantage+ creative card

  1. Ads tab, hover the ad, click Edit. The editor opens with a sidebar of ads on the left and the ad's settings in the middle.
  2. Scroll to Advantage+ creative (some accounts see Standard enhancements or a card that reads "Turned on: Summaries, Music" and similar).
  3. Click Edit. Switch off Standard enhancements first; on most builds that also switches off everything under it. Then check each row, because a few (Music, Relevant comments, Site links, Enhance CTA) are sometimes independent.
  4. Click Apply or Done.

3. Clean the Creative setup card

  1. Open Creative setup.
  2. On Website highlights click the pencil, switch the master off, save the sub-modal.
  3. Do the same for Website summaries and Site links. Both may be checkboxes rather than switches; uncheck them all, including ones that show as "indeterminate" (a dash), which Meta treats as on by default.
  4. On Promotions uncheck Highlight promo codes and Email sign-up, then save.
  5. If Products shows items and you did not add them, set it to none.
  6. Save the Creative setup card itself. Meta sometimes keeps the card open after saving; that is normal.

4. Switch off Personalized destinations

  1. Open the Personalized destinations card and click Edit.
  2. The sub-modal has tabs on the left. On each of Shop, Browser add-ons, Optimize website destination and Product browsing switch the master off.
  3. Click Save in the sub-modal. Closing it without saving reverts every tab.

5. Remove Related media

In the media section look for Related media with a count such as "3 of 10 selected". Deselect every item until it reads "0 selected". These are assets Meta chose from your library to rotate into the ad; with zero selected the feature is off for that ad.

6. The rest of the page

7. Save, reopen, check

Publish or save the draft, then open the ad again. If a card still reads "Turned on: …", go back into that card. Then do the next ad. On a campaign of thirty drafts this is about thirty five minutes of clicking.

Shortcut. The free Meta Ads Cleaner extension does steps 2 to 7 in one click on the open ad, and can repeat it across every draft in the campaign. How that works.

Why they come back

Turn them all off in one click

  1. Install Meta Ads Cleaner from the Chrome Web Store. No account, no sign-up.
  2. Open any ad in the editor. A small widget appears in the corner with the number of enhancements currently on, and the popup lists them by name.
  3. Click Disable (or press Ctrl+Shift+D, Cmd+Shift+D on a Mac). The extension flips every switch it knows, opens the sub-modals that need opening, unchecks the pre-ticked boxes, saves each sub-modal, and reports what it changed.
  4. If something is still on, the widget says which category and lets you click that one item to retry it. Undo is available for five minutes after a run.

Categories you want to keep, for example Music on a creator account, are switched off in the popup's Filters tab or locked per ad account, and no run will touch them.

Clean a whole campaign of drafts

  1. In Ads Manager select the drafts you want and click Edit, or open one draft so the campaign's drafts appear in the editor sidebar.
  2. Open the popup's Bulk tab. It shows how many drafts it found and how many are selected. The number on the button is exactly the number of ads that will be edited.
  3. Click Disable on N draft ads. The extension opens each draft, cleans it, saves, and moves to the next. Live ads are skipped unless you chose the Selected scope with published ads selected.

Bulk runs can be paused, and every run is written to the History list with a per-ad count.

Questions

Can I turn off enhancements for the whole ad account?

No. Meta has no account-level switch for creative enhancements. They are set per ad and default to on. The extension's automatic mode, which runs when an editor opens, is the nearest thing to an account-wide off.

Advantage+ creative or Standard enhancements: which one do I have?

Same card, two names. Meta renamed it in 2025 and has used both labels since. The switches inside are the same set.

Is there an API way?

The Marketing API exposes some creative features under degrees_of_freedom_spec, but many newer toggles (Related media, Personalized destinations, Website highlights) exist only in the interface. The extension works in the interface, so it reaches all of them.

Does the extension send my data anywhere?

No. It makes no network requests. You can watch the Network tab in DevTools while it runs.
